About EB-PQ Series

Epson's EB-PQ Series is built for buyers who need true large-venue projection rather than a portable meeting-room projector. The range combines Epson's 3-chip 3LCD imaging with 4K Crystal Motion technology and laser light sources, and it is aimed at spaces such as auditoriums, theaters, museums, visitor attractions, live events and immersive installations. Epson brought the full eight-model lineup to market in May 2024, with brightness choices from 8,000 to 20,000 lumens and black or white chassis choices on several tiers.

What makes the EB-PQ Series different?

The main reason to consider EB-PQ is scale. These projectors are designed around high brightness, interchangeable powered lenses and installation tools for demanding venues. Epson states that the range uses 4K Crystal Motion technology, 3-chip 3LCD imaging, frame interpolation, HDR support and scene adaptive gamma correction. A 20,000-hour laser light source reduces routine light-source maintenance compared with lamp-based large-venue systems.

The range also supports Epson's optional PixAlign camera for tasks such as edge blending assistance, geometry assistance, automatic color calibration and screen matching. NFC and Epson's professional management tools are useful when an integrator is commissioning or maintaining several projectors rather than a single screen.

Which EB-PQ brightness tier should buyers consider?

The lineup starts with the EB-PQ2008 models at 8,000 lumens and steps through the EB-PQ2010 at 10,000 lumens, EB-PQ2213B at 13,000 lumens, EB-PQ2216 models at 16,000 lumens and EB-PQ2220B at 20,000 lumens. Several lower and middle tiers offer black and white chassis choices, while the highest-output options are more focused on professional staging and fixed installations.

Brightness should not be chosen from the headline number alone. Screen size, ambient light, projection surface, lens choice, throw distance and whether multiple projectors will be blended or stacked all affect the right tier. An integrator can often save money and power by sizing the projector to the room rather than automatically choosing the brightest model.

How flexible is installation?

EB-PQ is an interchangeable-lens platform. Epson says the projectors work with optional powered lenses, including an ultra short throw 0.35 lens, so the projector body and lens should be budgeted together. This makes the family much more adaptable than a fixed-lens projector when the room has difficult throw distances, rear-projection requirements or architectural constraints.

For the 13,000-, 16,000- and 20,000-lumen models, Epson adds a filterless cabinet, an IP5X-rated hermetically sealed optical and light-source unit and liquid cooling. Those details matter for rental, staging and permanent installations where reliability and dust resistance can be more important than compactness alone.

Who should choose something else?

A classroom, small conference room or portable presentation setup usually does not need this family. Epson's PowerLite fixed-lens models are simpler and more economical when 4K large-venue output, interchangeable lenses and advanced multi-projector tools are unnecessary. Home cinema buyers should look at Epson's Q-Series, Pro Cinema or Lifestudio ranges instead, which are designed around entertainment use rather than venue integration.

EB-PQ also deserves a professional installation budget. Lenses are separate, and mounting, signal distribution, calibration and control can materially affect total project cost. Buyers comparing projectors only by chassis price can underestimate the installed cost.

Is the EB-PQ Series still current?

Yes. Epson announced that the entire eight-model lineup was shipping in May 2024, continued to feature EB-PQ at InfoComm 2025, and demonstrated EB-PQ installations again at InfoComm 2026. That continuing first-party presence makes the family strategically current even though its commercial launch occurred in 2024.
