Xiaomi builds phones, a large connected-home range and, since 2024, electric cars. It reached scale by selling hardware at thin margins and making its money on everything around it.

Huawei is a private Chinese company owned by its employees through Huawei Investment & Holding; founder Ren Zhengfei holds under 1%. It makes telecoms equipment, phones, wearables and laptops, led by the Mate and Pura phone lines.

Honor makes phones, tablets and wearables. It was Huawei's sub-brand until 2020, when it was sold and became an independent company.

TCL is a Chinese electronics group best known for televisions and displays. It makes phones under its own name and, under a licence from Nokia, the Alcatel brand.
