CodeNinja was founded in 2014 by Mukhtar Ahmad Baig, who leads it as chief executive. It started as a bootstrapped engineering firm in Lahore, and Lahore is still its core development hub. The company now lists its headquarters in Dallas, Texas, with further offices in Riyadh and in Santiago, Chile. It says it has more than 250 engineers serving more than 240 clients across 15 countries.

It began as a software house doing web, mobile and ecommerce development, and has since repositioned around AI delivery. Its current offer covers agentic systems and workflow automation, AI labs and embedded engineering pods, machine learning and computer vision, data analytics, and custom software development for enterprises, governments and companies that acquire software businesses.

A large share of its work is about supplying engineering capacity. CodeNinja builds offshore and nearshore teams, runs dedicated development centers, and sets up global capability centers on a build-operate-transfer model, where it builds a team for a client and later hands it over. Engagements range from fixed-scope projects and AI pilots to managed engineering teams.

On the technology side it works with .NET, MERN and MEAN stacks, PHP and Java, and offers cloud services on AWS and Azure. It has described itself as an Adobe Commerce Cloud solution partner and a Microsoft solutions partner for business applications, and has named Microsoft, Lifeforce, ABHI and Graana among the organisations it has built teams for.

In December 2023 CodeNinja raised 1.6 million US dollars in a round led by sAi Venture Capital, with Dallas-based Plutus Capital taking part, to expand its cloud, data and AI work.
