Hiring a software house in Karachi
Most of the established Karachi firms work for overseas clients, so they're used to remote delivery, written specs and video calls. What changes from firm to firm is focus. Some live in WordPress and WooCommerce, some build B2B ecommerce, some are mobile and games studios, and a few run IT operations as well as development.
What it costs
Established Karachi software houses usually quote somewhere between 25 and 99 US dollars an hour, and smaller studios go below that. Minimum project sizes tend to start around 5,000 to 25,000 dollars. Renting engineers by the month, often called staff augmentation, is usually cheaper per hour than a fixed-price project, because the firm carries less risk.
Working hours
Pakistan runs on UTC+5 all year. London is 4 to 5 hours behind, so a London morning overlaps with a Karachi afternoon. The Gulf is only an hour behind. The US East Coast is 9 to 10 hours behind, so most Karachi teams either run a late shift or keep a few people on US hours. Ask which one you'll get.
What to check before you sign
- Which company signs. Many Karachi firms bill through a US, UK or UAE entity. Make sure the IP assignment and governing law sit with an entity you can actually reach.
- Who's on your project. Ask to meet the lead engineer, not only the sales team.
- Export registration. Ask whether the firm is registered with the Pakistan Software Export Board, which Pakistani IT exporters register with for export incentives.
- Payment terms. Invoices are normally in US dollars by bank transfer. Tie payments to delivered milestones, not to dates.
