Apple lists an A17 Pro chip with a 6 core CPU and a 5 core GPU, an 8.3 inch Liquid Retina display with 500 nits peak brightness, P3 wide colour and True Tone, a 12MP Wide back camera with True Tone flash, a 12MP Center Stage front camera, all day battery life, and four finishes in space gray, starlight, purple and blue. It works with Apple Pencil Pro and Apple Pencil (USB-C). Macworld reports the line has held a $499 starting price since 2021.

That generation kept the body and the screen size of the model before it, moved from A15 Bionic to A17 Pro, raised base storage to 128GB and added Apple Pencil Pro support. Those figures belong to the current model and are the baseline a successor would be measured against.

The reported OLED model, and how much of it to believe

The claim is consistent across outlets and it is worth taking seriously as reporting, which is different from taking it as fact.

What several sources agree on is a move from the current LCD to OLED, and a target in autumn 2026, with October named. Macworld cites Gurman for the October timing and notes that supply constraints could push it back. On the chip, the same reporting is hedged rather than settled, naming A19 Pro as most likely while allowing for others depending on when the device actually ships. Reports also mention Apple's N1 wireless chip and a C1X modem in cellular models.

The reports disagree on the screen size, which is a useful signal about how firm any of this is. Display Supply Chain Consultants were quoted in December 2024 suggesting a move from 8.3 to 8.5 inches within the same chassis by way of thinner bezels. Other coverage has named 8.7 inches.
