WhatsApp for iOS May Soon Let Users Switch Between Multiple Accounts with Ease
Managing personal and professional conversations separately on a single device has long been a challenge for WhatsApp users on iOS. However, this could change soon. WhatsApp, the popular messaging app owned by Meta, is reportedly testing a new feature for its iOS platform that will allow users to seamlessly switch between multiple accounts on the same iPhone—a highly requested functionality that could simplify communication for millions of users.
According to information shared by WABetaInfo, a well-known WhatsApp feature tracker, the platform is currently working on multi-account support within the iOS ecosystem. The feature appears to be in testing on the WhatsApp beta version 25.19.10.74 for iOS, indicating it may be available in a future app update. While Android users already enjoy similar functionality, iPhone users have so far been left behind—until now.
A Closer Look at the Upcoming Multi-Account Feature
The core functionality of the upcoming feature revolves around allowing users to add, manage, and switch between multiple WhatsApp accounts on one device without logging out. This marks a significant shift in how WhatsApp handles user sessions on iPhones.
Based on screenshots and reports from the beta testing environment, WhatsApp is working on a new “Account List” section within the app’s settings. This page is designed as a central dashboard where all accounts associated with the device will be visible. Here’s what users can expect:
- Add or Remove Accounts: Users will be able to add new WhatsApp accounts and remove any existing ones directly from this page.
- Profile View: Each listed account will display a profile photo and current status, helping users to easily identify the correct one.
- Smooth Switching: Tapping on a particular account will instantly switch the app interface to that profile, including its chat history, settings, and notifications, without restarting the app or logging out of the current session.
How It Will Work: Switching Without Logging Out
Traditionally, iOS devices limit how messaging apps like WhatsApp manage accounts. Until now, if an iPhone user wanted to use two WhatsApp accounts, they either had to use a secondary app like WhatsApp Business or juggle between devices—neither of which were practical for most people.
With this new feature, WhatsApp is addressing this inconvenience head-on. The account-switching process is said to be immediate, requiring no logout or app reboot. Once a user selects an account from the Account List, WhatsApp will:
- Load all conversations tied to that specific account
- Apply that account’s personal notification settings, such as tones and vibration patterns
- Enable the correct media auto-download preferences
- Use that account’s backup settings for cloud storage
This seamless approach promises to make WhatsApp much more versatile, especially for users who juggle personal, work, and community-related accounts daily.
Notification Management Across Accounts
Managing notifications across multiple accounts can get confusing—especially when they all belong to the same app on a single device. To tackle this, WhatsApp is also said to be developing a smarter notification system that can differentiate alerts based on the account they belong to.
According to the information from WABetaInfo, when a message arrives for a secondary account while the user is logged into the primary one, the notification will clearly display the sender’s name along with the associated account name. This ensures that users know exactly where the message is coming from before opening it.
Moreover, tapping on the notification is expected to automatically switch the active session to the correct account and open the relevant chat thread—eliminating the need to go through multiple steps just to view a message.
This feature not only improves usability but also keeps things organized and efficient, especially for users who rely on WhatsApp for both business and personal use.
