About Samsung Micro RGB (2027)
No 2027 Micro RGB television has been announced. Samsung has published no model names, sizes, prices or dates for one, and none are guessed at here. Micro RGB is Samsung's newest and most expensive display line, and it is young enough that its trajectory matters more than any specification. It replaces the white or blue LED modules behind an LCD panel with individually controlled red, green and blue LEDs, each under 100 micrometres across, which is what allows the colour performance the line is sold on. Samsung launched it in August 2025 as a single 115 inch set at 29,999.99 dollars, then widened it sharply for 2026 into two series starting at 1,599.99 dollars. It now sits above Neo QLED at the top of Samsung's LCD range. Whether it holds that position in 2027 is the question worth watching, and nobody outside Samsung can answer it yet.
What Micro RGB actually is
Every LCD television needs a backlight. In a conventional set that backlight is made of white or blue LEDs, with colour produced by filters and, in a quantum dot set, by a conversion layer in front of them.
Micro RGB changes the backlight itself. Samsung uses separate red, green and blue LEDs, each smaller than 100 micrometres, controlled individually. That means the light arriving at the panel is already the right colour rather than being filtered into it, which is where the colour advantage comes from.
It is not OLED. The pixels are still lit from behind rather than lighting themselves, so contrast depends on how precisely the backlight is controlled. It is also not Micro LED, which does away with the LCD panel entirely and costs far more.
On the numbers Samsung publishes, the 130 inch model shown at CES 2026 covers 100 percent of the BT.2020 colour gamut with VDE certification, and the 2026 range is the first to support HDR10 Plus Advanced, which handles 10 to 16 bit colour depth and brightness figures up to 10,000 nits.
How quickly the line has moved
The price history is the most informative thing about Micro RGB, because it has fallen faster than almost any new television technology in recent memory.
Samsung launched the first set on 12 August 2025: one 115 inch model at 29,999.99 dollars in the United States.
For 2026, revealed at CES and on sale in the United States from April, the range became two series. The flagship R95H covers 65, 75 and 85 inches at 3,199.99, 4,499.99 and 6,499.99 dollars. The R85H runs from 55 to 85 inches at 1,599.99 to 3,999.99 dollars. The 115 inch model carried over, and GSMArena reports Samsung showed a 130 inch R95H at CES 2026 without announcing a price.
In one generation the entry point fell from thirty thousand dollars to under sixteen hundred. That is the context for any 2027 model: this is a line still finding its position, not a settled one.
What reviewers make of it
The independent verdict is warm about the picture and unconvinced about the price.
Techgoondu's review of the R95H praises the brightness, saying it holds up without fading under strong daylight, and the colour, particularly in demanding film content. It reports smooth motion handling without the soap opera effect, blacks it describes as near OLED quality, and a 4.2.2 channel speaker array that performs better than expected with clear dialogue and Dolby Atmos.
The criticism is direct. At the price Techgoondu quotes, the 65 inch R95H costs meaningfully more than Samsung's own S90H OLED at the same size, and the reviewer says plainly that they would still choose OLED today for a premium television, treating it as the better choice for image quality. The AI Football Mode is also described as producing mixed results and sometimes oversaturating colour.
The genuine advantage over OLED is the absence of burn in risk, which matters for a set showing static content such as news tickers, games or a computer desktop for long periods.
What to weigh it against
The first comparison is Samsung's own OLED. At overlapping sizes the S95H and S90H cost less or similar and are rated ahead on image quality by reviewers who have seen both. Micro RGB answers back with higher sustained brightness and no burn in risk.
The second is Neo QLED, which now sits below Micro RGB in Samsung's range. The QN80H starts at 1,299.99 dollars against 1,599.99 for the R85H, and the gap is small enough that anyone considering the top of the Neo QLED range should look at the bottom of the Micro RGB range.
Outside Samsung, LG and Sony compete with OLED at the premium end, while TCL and Hisense offer very bright mini LED sets at lower prices with more backlight zones, generally giving up processing and software polish.
At the very large sizes, above 100 inches, Micro RGB has few direct equivalents, and that is where the line has the clearest case.
Who should buy something else
If image quality is the only criterion and the room is not especially bright, buy an OLED. That is the conclusion independent reviewers reach even while praising this line, and Samsung's own OLEDs are frequently cheaper at the same size.
If you need Dolby Vision, Samsung does not support it anywhere in its range, and a 2027 Micro RGB set is no reason to expect that to change.
If your budget stops around the top of the Neo QLED range, compare carefully rather than assuming the newer technology wins. The R85H and the QN80H are close in price and not close in purpose.
If you are buying a screen that will show static content for hours a day, this is the argument for Micro RGB over OLED rather than against it, and it is a real one.
If you are waiting for a 2027 model specifically, note that prices in this line have fallen very fast, which is an argument for waiting, and that the line has been through only one CES, which means its shape next January is genuinely unpredictable.
And if a page is quoting 2027 Micro RGB models or prices, it has invented them.
