About Safepay

Safepay gives online businesses in Pakistan a way to accept card payments. That sounds unremarkable until you consider what it replaces: a seller who wanted to take cards had to negotiate a merchant relationship with a bank, integrate whatever that bank provided, and handle settlement and reconciliation on their own. For a small business the integration cost alone was often the reason cash on delivery stayed the default. The company provides the checkout and the API instead, so taking a card becomes a piece of software a developer can add rather than a banking project. Comparisons with Stripe follow it around for that reason, and Stripe itself took part in the seed round. Safepay was founded in 2019 by Ziyad Parekh and Raza Naqvi and is based in Karachi. It went through Y Combinator in 2020, widely reported as the first Pakistani fintech to do so, and later raised a seven-figure seed round with Stripe among the investors.
