What does Rovo do?
Rovo combines AI search, conversational assistance and agents. Atlassian describes it as AI built for teamwork, grounded in the Teamwork Graph and connected to work and knowledge across Atlassian apps. Users can search for information, ask questions against organizational context, draft content and use agents for supported actions.
The value is different from a general chatbot because Rovo is designed to work inside Atlassian's environment. Its usefulness depends heavily on the quality, permissions and structure of the connected data. If Jira, Confluence and other connected sources contain stale or inconsistent information, AI can surface that inconsistency faster rather than fix it automatically.
How does Rovo fit with Jira, Confluence and Loom?
Atlassian includes Rovo as a core part of Teamwork Collection with Jira, Confluence and Loom. Jira supplies structured work and delivery context, Confluence supplies durable knowledge, and Loom supplies recorded explanations and meeting context. Rovo can search, summarize and act across supported information so users spend less time opening separate systems to find the background behind a task or decision.
This relationship is strongest when the organization already uses several Atlassian apps. A team using only one small Jira project may get less incremental value than an enterprise with many Confluence spaces, Jira projects and connected tools. Buyers should therefore evaluate Rovo as part of an information architecture, not just as another AI assistant.
Who can access Rovo in September 2026?
Atlassian currently states that Rovo is available to customers on Standard, Premium or Enterprise Cloud plans for Jira, Confluence, Service Collection or Teamwork Collection. The exact included allowance depends on the plan and product family. Atlassian also documents a standalone Rovo Standard option for people who need Rovo access without another paid Atlassian app subscription.
At the time of this review on September 7, 2026, Atlassian Support describes Rovo Standard as being in beta. Atlassian says organizations in that beta will return to Rovo Free when the beta ends unless they opt into the paid Standard plan. Buyers should therefore verify current availability before treating beta terms as a permanent commercial model.
How do Rovo credits work?
Atlassian measures billable AI and enriched Teamwork Graph usage through Rovo credits. The number of credits consumed depends on the type and complexity of the interaction. Atlassian's documentation distinguishes free embedded intelligence from billable conversational, agentic and enriched graph activity, and states that the current usage model applies to usage and forecasts starting August 31, 2026.
Current plan allowances are pooled at the organization level. Atlassian's licensing page lists 25 credits per user per month for Jira or Confluence Standard, 70 for Premium and 150 for Enterprise. Teamwork Collection and Service Collection have larger allowances of 250, 700 and 1,500 credits per user per month for Standard, Premium and Enterprise respectively. Organizations with heavy AI usage should model expected consumption rather than assuming the included allowance will cover every workflow.
What does standalone Rovo Standard cost?
Pricing checked September 7, 2026 against Atlassian Support. Atlassian currently says the Rovo Standard beta itself is not charged. After beta, organizations that choose the paid Standard plan are documented at $5 per billable user per month per organization. Each managed account with the Rovo Standard user role is billed once per organization even if that person uses Rovo across multiple sites.
This is different from the Rovo access included with paid Jira, Confluence and collection subscriptions. Buyers should confirm whether users already receive Rovo through an existing Atlassian plan before buying standalone access. Atlassian's usage-based pricing can also create additional cost when included Rovo credit allowances are exceeded or when extra usage packs are purchased.
What governance should organizations plan for?
Rovo can become more useful as it sees more organizational context, but that also makes permissions and data quality more important. Administrators should review which sources are connected, whether permissions map correctly into AI experiences, which agents can take actions, what data can leave Atlassian through integrations and how usage is monitored.
Organizations should also define who can create or install agents and how agent outputs are reviewed. A search answer that cites an outdated page is one problem; an agent taking an action from outdated context can be more consequential. Good Rovo governance therefore starts with content ownership, access control and clear boundaries for automated actions.
What integrations and extensions matter for Rovo?
Rovo is built around Atlassian's Teamwork Graph and can use context from Atlassian apps and supported third-party systems. Its value increases when relevant systems are connected and permissions remain reliable across those connections. Atlassian also exposes Teamwork Graph capabilities through developer interfaces, including a command-line interface and MCP server, which can extend how organizations use enriched context.
Buyers should distinguish between search connectors, context enrichment and action-capable integrations. A source that can be searched does not automatically mean an agent can safely update it. Security teams should review connector scopes and audit requirements before broad deployment.
What are Rovo's main limitations?
Rovo is most compelling inside an Atlassian-centered environment, which can also be its biggest limitation. Organizations that use little Jira or Confluence may find a more general enterprise AI platform easier to justify. Credit-based usage can also make cost less predictable than a simple flat subscription when adoption and agent activity grow quickly.
AI quality remains dependent on source quality. Rovo can retrieve and synthesize available context, but it cannot guarantee that the underlying project status, policy page or documentation is current. Teams still need human ownership of authoritative information and review processes for important decisions.
How does Rovo compare with alternatives?
Microsoft 365 Copilot can be a stronger fit for organizations whose knowledge and communication center on Microsoft 365, Teams and SharePoint. Google Gemini for Workspace can suit organizations centered on Google Workspace. General enterprise AI platforms can offer broader model and integration choices when Atlassian is only one of many systems rather than the operational center.
Rovo has an advantage when Jira and Confluence already hold the organization's work and knowledge. Buyers should compare context quality, permission handling, action support, credit economics, administration and ecosystem fit rather than comparing AI models in isolation.
Who should choose something else instead of Rovo?
Organizations should consider another AI platform when Atlassian contains only a small portion of their useful knowledge, when they need model or deployment choices Rovo does not provide, or when AI usage would be difficult to govern under a credit-based model. A team that mainly needs a standalone writing assistant may also be paying for integration depth it does not use.
Rovo is a better fit when teams already depend on Jira, Confluence or Atlassian collections and want AI grounded in the same work context. The strongest case is reducing the gap between finding information and acting on it, while keeping permissions and governance strong enough for that added automation.
