About SpacebarX

SpacebarX is a keyboard-first, local-first outliner that combines notes, tasks, writing, Markdown, code blocks and project planning in one nested workspace. A thought can remain a note, become a task or grow into a project without being transferred to another application.

The workspace operates offline and keeps outlines on the user's device. Optional synchronization uses a Google Drive or Dropbox account controlled by the user. The permanent Free plan covers the core outliner, while Pro adds visual planning, recovery, protection, customization and bring-your-own-key AI features.

What can you do with SpacebarX?

SpacebarX uses an outline as the foundation for different kinds of work. Users can create nested notes, add checkboxes and dates, write in Markdown, place code blocks beside project notes and search the workspace while retaining the context around each result.

Tasks created anywhere in the outline can appear in Today. This includes overdue work and items scheduled for the current day. Automatic rollover keeps unfinished items visible instead of leaving them behind in an earlier daily view.

The Free plan includes templates, mirrors, quick capture, focus mode, multi-select editing and configurable keyboard shortcuts. Commands, dates and navigation can be entered inline, reducing the need to move between menus.

Files and folders can separate major areas of work. Whole View then displays those areas as a connected outline when a user needs a broader view.

As of August 28, 2026, SpacebarX was available as an installable progressive web application. Native desktop and mobile applications were still listed as being in development, so buyers needing native software should confirm current availability.

How does local-first storage work?

SpacebarX stores outline content in the browser or application storage on the user's device. The workspace remains available without an internet connection and does not depend on a hosted document database for each edit.

Optional synchronization connects to the user's own Google Drive or Dropbox account. Documents are stored there as CRDT files. SpacebarX does not receive the contents of outlines, document titles, drive files or the access tokens used to reach the connected drive.

An account is optional for the Free outliner. It becomes necessary for Pro licensing and for maintaining plan access across devices. Account records include the email address, plan and license status, referral usage and basic activity timestamps.

Local-first storage does not remove the need for backups. Users should understand browser storage, drive synchronization, device loss and deletion behavior before using the application for critical records. Teams should also assess whether the collaboration model suits their work, because user-controlled storage and shared real-time editing solve different problems.

The Free plan costs INR 0 and does not expire. It includes:

The India pricing page displayed Pro at INR 299 per month. Each Pro plan begins with a 14-day trial without requiring a payment card. Cancelling a subscription stops future renewal but does not remove the user's outline.

Razorpay processes payments in India, while Paddle handles international payments. Paid purchases follow the applicable refund and cancellation policy.

Privacy and security considerations

The main privacy distinction is that SpacebarX does not operate a document server containing users' outlines. With drive sync enabled, files move through the user's Google Drive or Dropbox account.

Bring-your-own-key AI follows the same ownership approach. The API key, prompts and model responses are kept outside SpacebarX's servers and handled through the provider selected by the user.

Pro includes encrypted documents, passkeys and recovery codes. Buyers should still confirm what is encrypted, how keys and recovery operate and which metadata remains visible. The security and retention policies of the connected drive and AI provider also remain relevant.

Analytics are disabled by default. The account system retains limited service information for authentication, licensing and referrals. Users can request account deletion through the company's contact channel.

Organizations considering confidential or regulated use should assess administrative controls, audit requirements, shared access, incident response and contractual support. A local-first design reduces some forms of vendor exposure, but it does not by itself satisfy every compliance requirement.

The product grew from a practical problem: notes and tasks often live in separate applications, causing the supporting context to become disconnected from the action that depends on it. SpacebarX addresses that problem by allowing both to remain inside the same outline.

Pro becomes more relevant when the workspace holds several active projects and requires visual views, saved searches, calendar connections, encrypted documents or version restoration. Its value depends on whether those additions replace separate applications and reduce fragmentation.

Who should choose an alternative?

People who prefer documents, databases or a visual canvas as their main structure may find a nested outline restrictive. Notion, Craft and Anytype provide broader page and database models.

Teams requiring mature real-time collaboration, centralized administration, detailed access policies and audit trails should verify whether SpacebarX meets those needs. Its clearest strengths are individual control, offline work and user-managed synchronization.

Obsidian or Logseq may suit users who prioritize local Markdown files, extensive plugins, backlinks or an established personal knowledge-management ecosystem. Todoist and specialist project platforms may be more suitable when assignments, workloads, dependencies and reporting matter more than connected notes.

Users who require native desktop or mobile applications should confirm current availability before migrating an existing workspace.
